In the realm of spooky DOS horror games appropriate for Halloween, there are not many that come to mind that are able to achieve a sense of apprehension using only primitive CGA graphics and short bursts of text. But Transylvania, in which you are facing not just a vampire but also a werewolf, does an admirable job. On your quest to rescue Princess Sabrina you'll need to explore the Transylvania countryside and use the typical VERB NOUN text-based command interface to interact with the world. If the werewolf appears, make sure that your next command is to leave the area, otherwise you won't last long! (This game was originally a commercial game but was released for free by its original authors.)
