WWII is a text-mode war simulation game. The object is to capture the enemy HQ after landing your troops on the beach and advancing through enemy territory. First you must choose how many of each kind of troops you will take, then you select a campaign, then you're dropped right into the simulation. There is a hefty 86k doc file that accompanies this game which explains how to play, and you'll definitely need it. This isn't my kind of game so I can't comment on how well it actually plays, but it certainly looks in-depth. Unfortunately according to the manual this shareware version will end the game after 50 moves are taken, so you likely won't be able to complete a full game.

CTRL-F12 attempts to speed up game, CTRL-F11 attempts to slow it down.
