Transport Tycoon is considered a classic in the real-time strategy genre, and its author went on to develop the tremendously popular RollerCoaster Tycoon series. The game has you in charge of a transport company, beginning in the 1930's. You'll need to build railroads, buses, and other forms of transportation to get passengers where they want to go. However other rival companies will try to do the same. In this demo version, only railroads can be built. The game features good graphics and sounds, and although this is really not my type of game at all it seems like it has solid foundations. The modern-day free & open source remake OpenTTD offers bug fixes and improvements to the original game and ports it to modern operating systems, if you're interested in that sort of thing!
