Smashout is a Breakout clone written in BASIC. Although distributed as a .BAS file (so you can see the source code) you can easily run it via GW-BASIC, BASICA, or whatever compatible BASIC interpreter you want. GW-BASIC is included here; I think this is okay since Microsoft released the original DOS source code a while back, the version I found had BASICA which I'm not sure is technically distributable. Anyways it's a pretty basic (ha) textmode ball & paddle game with some interesting controls, using the Z and V keys to move several spaces left and right, and the X and C keys to only move one space in either direction. It doesn't play particularly well and only offers monochrome (Hercules) screen mode. Note that in DOSBox you can change the screen color in mono mode by pressing F11 so you can use green or orange if you prefer that truly retro-screen look.
