PRogue

PRogue is a Roguelike game, inspired by the original Rogue, but the authors take considerable liberties with their re-interpretation of the game. Like the original, your quest is to recover a special item. There are no character classes here, you are a generic hero-type guy. And while many things are the same (text-mode randomly generated maps, many keyboard hotkeys to accomplish actions), there are many differences, like whenever you encounter an enemy, the view switches to a graphical mode with a drawing of your foe, and you simply repeatedly choose to (F)ight or (R)un. It seems like there is a decent amount of depth here, but it also seems quite difficult as I died quickly whenever I played. (I know you die a lot in Roguelike games but this seemed excessive.) In any case, play it if you're interested in something familiar yet different in this genre. (Quickbasic source code is included.)
