Now then ... DOOM 2D is a strange experiment / parody (?) of the actual game. It was created by a Russian programming team and as you might expect, attempts to recreate the DOOM experience in a 2D platforming environment. It uses graphics and sound effects ripped from the official game. The controls are not bad, and there must have been considerable work that went into making it, with many different enemies, items, traps, even bosses and a two-player simultaneous mode. That said, I don't find it to be tremendously fun to play, so it seems to exist more for its novelty than anything else. (If you speak Russian, you may be interested in the included level editor. If not, it'd take considerable trial and error to figure out how it works!)
