Break Machine is a game with great production values, but the game itself is underwhelming. It's an Arkanoid / Breakout clone, and by clone I mean it copies Arkanoid pretty closely. You must destroy all the bricks by bouncing the ball off your paddle to proceed to the next level. The ball bounces in 45 degree angles only, which limits your ability to control where it goes. Although the 640x400 graphics look nice (especially the intro and some of the effects) the gameplay is slow and not too interesting. There are several different powerups (and powerdowns) including one that controls that paddle for you, which is kinda neat? But that powerup lasts for way too long, so you're just sitting there watching the PC play, which is not too fun. The full game has 50 levels but the shareware has only 5. Supposedly there is a special level every 5 levels, but I haven't got there so you'll need to get there yourself if you want to find out ...
