Does anyone watch this show??? Its a british show which imitates mythbusters but does everything in a real scientific way.

I think its great how they blow stuff up or race animals

Shudders, In my mind it is not that great.

An obvious rip-off of mythbusters, but with no build-up, everything done really dodgy, and the theory that if there is one stripper in each episode it is a good show.

Oh god how I hate Braniac. First of all it’s nothing like Blokesworld or Mythbuster even though everyone keeps saying it is.

Ok Blokesworld is about chicks, beer, footy, motorbikes and utes. Basically all things traditionally bloky. It has no real meaning to it, it’s just an entertaining ½ hour of late night television.

Now Mythbusters is a great show set out to dispel all those old wives tales we hear, those things our mates tell us and swear that are true which we just aren’t sure if we should believe or not. Now I think Mythbusters is up to it’s 7th season, and there’s a reason it’s been going so long. It’s a bloody good show. Not only informative but also very entertaining.

Now we come to Braniac, I’ve never really liked British humour. And this is no exception. The girls aren’t that hot and the explosions aren’t even laughable they are just pathetic. I mean seriously my mate Andy and I used to make bigger explosions when we were back in primary school.


Now getting into some nit picking. I really hate the way Braniac steal ideas from Mythbusters. Now I have noticed this several times but the one that immediately comes to mind is the brown noise experiment. I’ll give you a little run down of how each show went about conducting the experiment (Oh and Mythbusters did it first).

I’ll start with Braniac. Basically they put one of there so called braniacs into an outdoor portable toilet. Then about 50 meters away they had an amplifier to play the brown noise. Now this is all well and good but where are the speakers? Oh you guys forgot about those didn’t you, oh well. Anyway despite that total cock up the show keeps going (Infact you don’t even make mention of the total lack of sound equipment besides the amp). Now you play what you consider to be the brown noise and you warn that viewers should make sure the path to the toilet is clear. Ok now here comes your second big mistake, the first being no speakers of course, you claim that the pitch is 21.75 decibels. Oh I’m sorry but I had my speakers turned right up, and in case you didn’t know 21.75 is well within human hearing range yet I heard nothing. More to the point the brown noise, if it does exist, is said to be out of the human hearing range. SO sorry guys 21.75 is way WAY to high.

Now onto Mythbusters. Now only do they have speakers specially made (As normal speakers are not designed to go that low), they have multiple stationed around Adam and play a frequency range from 2 decibels up to 12 (The brown noise is said to reside around 8). They even bring in professional sound technicians to conduct the experiment.

Ok so quick comparison:
Mythbusters had specialised equipment and trained operators; Braniac had an amplifier and not much else.
Mythbusters used a broad frequency range to cover all bases; Braniac tried one frequency which was in the wrong range.
Mythbusters gave a lot of scientific evidence to disprove the myth, Braniac claimed to prove it yet provided to evidence what so ever.

And as a final somewhat unrelated comparison. When Braniac do an explosion, a big titted blonde pushes down a ACME style plunger and you get a little bang. When Mythbusters do an explosion state police are called in to section off the area, FBI bomb experts are brought in to make sure nothing will go wrong, it’s conducted in the middle of nowhere as to avoid total carnage, all local roads are shut down and there is a 1 mile (Or 1.6km) exclusion zone for safety purposes during the blast.

To summarise. Braniac = bad, Mythbusters = good.

I agree it is really obvious when they do the same experiment, and brainiac calls it 'the first time tested' or they say they now have 'indisputable proof'.

The Duck's echo was what did it for me: Mythbusters captured every possible situation, explained how the myth is reasonable (that a quack seems to make it's own echo effect), then tested it. Brainiac walked a duck along a tunnel and just said 'yes, there is an echo'.

I don't think it's the british humour (which I often like), it's the fact that the most intellectual parts of the show are the 'what floats' ones: either the fruit or the office supplies. I only wish I could believe this show is supposed to be a parody of mythbusters.

Oh and by the way that whole will it float thing was stolen from The Late Show with David Lettermen who stole it from someone else. But he’s said that all along, he never tried to pass it off as original idea.
