Doom is, hands down the best dos game ever created.

Graphics: Crap for current times, but incredible for 1994. http://legacy.newdoom.com does some great things for the gfx and sfx

10/10

Sound: SCARY! Running around a dark maze with only 5 shells for your shotgun and you hear a growling and a shotgun blast! WOW!

10/10

Gameplay: Incredible. So engrossing.... I jump a foot every time I turn around and see a pinky demon.

10/10

Replay: Pretty good. Sometimes monotonous, but i've played it for years.

9/10

Multiplayer: Very cool. Doom Legacy adds bots. Good thing, since I beat my friends to the point where they don't want to play any more.

10/10

Doom was the 1st fps I've played. In 1st time I wasn't afraid, but turned always around when door shut down.

Generally graphics are horrible: rastered textures with awfull palette and too much blood. Only photo realistic are worse. But there's one thing has been done right: the 3-D illusion is perfect. 50

Music is typical Bobby Prince: 1st good, 1 better than average, some noticable and really boring ones. 70

Sound effects with SB Pro and normal speakers are ok, but if thou've SB 16 and plugged comp.into stereos, oh-la-laa! (98)

I like shooter games. That's way it's not bad, but if either graphics or blood was corrected, it'd be good. Think twice if thou wan't pay more than from Duke 3-D. I'd say: Check Flee markets', thou'd save big bucks, if store sellin' is legal in thy country.

My review of Doom:

Graphics: It's amazing how such a old game has such good 3D graphics for 1994. But when the charcters get to close to the screen they can look crappy. 9/10

Sound: Scary. Especially when a Imp is around.

Gameplay: It seems so advanced for 1994. Incredible. 10/10

Multiplayer: Haven't tried it yet.

I give the game 8/10

Doom was revolutionary for FPS's and comparing it to modern games 10 - 15 years older simply isn't fair. It's like ragging a Ford Model T in comparison to a Dodge Viper.

My final rating is

10/10 single player

5/10 multi player because there is no support for it.

sigh, this is an antique thread....

But just so you know... There are dozens of DOOM ports(they use the original wad files) out there, and some of them, suck as DOOMSday and DOOM Legacy support Internet play on public servers

I realise that you're new here pcxt21, so please be sure to check the rules and avoid posting in really old threads unless you have something relevant to add. Personally I didn’t really feel there was much wrong with this, but one of the other admins felt it deserved a lock, so just try to be more aware of the date on the last post in threads.
