I am trying to run Ultimate Domain. I tried running it from W2K, but it says I need "EMS 3.0" (related to EMM386?) with 2048k allocated. Since W2K doesn't let you handle memory, I don't know how to get around that. So I got a DOS 7.1 boot disk, and now the game starts, but it hangs after the opening screen. The manual is zero help, and I have searched all over the net with no luck. Apparently this game was not as popular as I thought it should be. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try a Dos Emulator dude as Windows 2000 isn't based on MS-DOS.
a good one is DosBox 6.1

I tried DosBox, but the game lags like hell with it (on my XP 2800+). I did manage to get it to run in Windows 2000.

I right-clicked on "ULTIMATE.EXE" and then went to "Poperties" and clicked the "Memory" tab.

Under "Conventional memory", I set "Total:" to 640 and "Initial Environment:" to 4096.

Under "Expanded (EMS) memory", I set "Total:" to 16384.

Under "Extended (XMS) memory", I set "Total:" to 16384 and checked "Uses HMA".

Under "MS-DOS protected-mode (DPMI) memory", I set "Total:" equal to 16384.

The first time I ran the game, it took a few minutes (literally) to start up, but after the first time it started up nice and fast.

The only problem I have now is that I don't have any sound. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm able to get sound on DosBox and on a Windows 98 machine I have (for about 10 seconds before I get an "Illegal operation"). If I figure out what the sound problem is and fix it, I'll post that here, too.

Just another peep hoping beyond hope that someone will see this and share some pearls of wisdom on how to get the game to install so I can play my all time favourite classic game.

If you look at the gamesdir you will see a readme, says:
THE GAME NEEDS EMS TO RUN.
So go to your dosbox start item, hit dosboxconfig and search for EMS=

set EMS=TRUE
start the game with genesia.

You're talking to someone who missed the whole DOS thing so knowing even the basics is beyond me. For me it's ALWAYS been inserting CD in drive and installing where ever I chose to, simple and easy.

Now though I find I can't even install the game as it insists the hard drives aren't valid destinations.

Friends have suggested I need to partition my hard drive and install there, will this help?

No need to partition your HD, i would dare say: if you have trouble even getting a simple game running on dosbox stay far away from any partition program, you surely gonna screw up your whole pc. Believe me, you won't be the first lacking basic knowledge to end up with a " frozen dead " pc.

first:create a <games> folder.
get dosbox,
make sure EMS=TRUE in dosboxconfig
mount your games folder as c:
mount your CDdrive as d:
run install from the cd , install it on c: (dosbox).

As far as for dosbox: read the stickies, the only thing i can do is repeat all that is written there, kind useless.
Also read the dosbox readme, plenty info there.( or :RTFM)
If needed get also D-Fend,a dosbox frontend.(see: stickies)
The game runs perfect through dosbox.

I'm making myself look like a total prune, which I probably am :-)

I need someone to tell me word for word what to type. Imagine you've just installed Dosbox and have run the program for the first time and you see Z:\>

You have the CD in drive F and you want it installed on drive D. What exactly do you type?

In dosbox 0.70 the CD version works if you mount your CDDrive only with -t cdrom.
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=15729
So i have mounted the CDROM without the label command. In fact I have mounted the CDROM alone with just -t cdrom and installed the game and it worked fine.

Is there a way to play it without the CD Rom?

You always could play the Amiga version in an emulator.
Do a google search for 'lemonamiga.com'.
If you have more questions about this, ask on an Amiga forum, not here.
