DONT TRUST GOOGLE!

Post by wardrich »

i heard it on the radio and read it in the paper that the search engine that everybody thinks is the best (but me) that it censors some sites that it finds. Ie if you were trying to do a report on hate crimes (like anti-jew crimes) it would block them out. This is good in a way but really bad because:

1)Hard to do some projects
2)what else does it censor?
3)Many people are against Internet censoring (like me*)
4)it technically doesnt give you all possible hits

So think twice before using it again. Im a fan of Altavista and Excite.

Richard

*Im against it because if people wanted the sites censored that badly, they can just downlaod Net Nanny or any other program like that.

Well, I've only had success with google (of course, I haven't done any antisemitism reports lately....), but google is excellent as far as searching for games and stuff..........and I've found it filters out some of the crap that nobody would want to see anyway, like the 1000 casino sites (ok, so it has some of them, but not as many).

There is an app called capernicus that is very good using multiple search engines to find what your looking for.. and the searches+finds are saved if you want to reference back to them.

The French and German Googles were bound by law to provide censoring, AFAIK.

Also Fundamental Christian sites like http://www.Jesus-is-Lord.com were affected by censoring. So Wardrich has a very excellent point there.

Albeit the phpBB.com forum heavily endorses Google, as well as many other cyber-places.

Or, you could just turn off filtering.

That's actually good to know wardich...I've been abusing google for quite some time lately for a project of mine and I haven't been satisfied with the lack of satisfactory results. Good timing on informing us, this sucker is due in like a week or two.

It doesn't censor everything. It reads your country code, and censors what it needs to in order to stay within that countrys laws. I would think that Canada and the US would have no censory (Maybe Child Porn).

Are you sure Safe-Search is turned off?
I've found some pretty nasty stuff with Google.

Why "NOT TRUST GOOGLE"? How often do we look for genocidal documents?

Okay, Google is *almost* our friend now. Yahoo can still do four things more that Google can't though

<a href="http://www.researchbuzz.com/FourThingsFinal.pdf">[PDF ALERT] here are the 4 things [PDF ALERT]</a>

(sorry for the PDF)
