Just stumbled upon an apparently very obscure DOS first-person action/adventure game from 2000 made by a German programmer Florian Born that is called
Desperabis. According to the
game's home page (archived copy), the full game was released as freeware on December 17, 2000. I have not yet found any information regarding its distribution prior to that date (i.e. whether it was free or sold). Info on the game is rather scarce, but it does feature some decent graphics, judging by screenshots.
The full version can be downloaded here:
DESPERA2.EXE
BTW, I've also noticed that although the site has the shareware version of
Descent, the three-level demo of
Descent II v1.0 is not present. It can be found in various places but here's a link anyway:

Recently I've watched a
video of the promotional Nestlé game called
Tricky Quiky Games, and then played a demo of it off a CD from
Hallfiry's collection. He game most certainly belongs to those promotional products that have become good games on their own, like
Chex Quest. It has some nice graphics and fluid gameplay in the best traditions of the genre. The license suggests that it can be distributed freely for non-commercial purposes.
I have not yet found any original distributive of the game yet, but it is featured on
Reloaded.org and also can be downloaded
here.

Found a copy of the enitre
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe/
Battle of Britain demo disk from Lucasflim Games:

Most other packages I found at cd.textfiles.com are incomplete (apparently whoever zipped them forgot to add commands to recurse subdirectories and add contents), making the demo versions unplayable. The one I linked to in my previous post does work though, but it's very clearly not the original thing, and it also lacks the non-interactive demo of
The Battle of Britain.

This one is only a musical slide-show.
Iron Seed, on the other hand, is a fully functional shareware version (in addition to the fact that the full one is free too). It's from the same development team that had originally worked on
In Pursuit of Greed (
Channel 7), and is features a soundtrack by Andrew Sega.

I've noticed that the website doesn't have
Operation Carnage in its database. Some time ago Midnight Synergy has released the full game for free, which can be downloaded
here.
Also archive.org has a copy of the game's
publisher's page, with a working shareware download:

Axia is a very nice space shooter game.
A playable demo is
available from the developer's website. (The demo filename includes "w95" in it, but it's just because it was packaged with WinZip, the game itself is a DOS programme.)
