Simple Axis & Allies clone

Post by Guest »

I used to play this game a lot in the mid-to-late 1990s.

I forgot the name, but here's what I remember:

- Shareware/Freeware type
- Had the word "Global" in the title (pretty sure)
- world map a la risk/axis&allies
- you had tanks and infantry (planes too?)

Basically a siple Axis & Allies clone... hope someone can help, I've been looking everywhere

I know of a shareware game called World Empire that could be like what you describe. Apparently it had sequels, as MobyGames lists parts 3 and 4 in the series. Demu.org has parts 1 and 2:
World Empire
World Empire II

Thanks so much for your reply, but it was not World Empire.

The game was very basic, although the 2d graphics were better than World Empire. I am almost certain you only had tanks and infantry as possible units.

There are also two games called Global Domination:
Global Domination (1993)
Global Domination (1998)

Getting closer.... but still not it.

It was even simpler. I want to say the game was called Global War(s) or Global Warfare?
I have searched everywhere for those names and not found the game I am looking for so I might be mistaken on the name? I also seem to remember it being developed by some European.

There are games called Global Effect and Global Conquest, both from early 90's. What was the time frame of your game again? There's also RISK: The Game of Global Domination, but that's probably too obvious :)

[Edit] Demu.org has a game called Global War, is that it?

Thanks again for helping me look for this game. I really appreciate it.

Nope, it was none of those. It dated from the mid 90s, and was a Shareware/Freeware game (Not commercial). Simple Axis & Allies clone with decent graphics...Anyone?

Do you recall if it was on dos, windows 3.1, or windows 95/98?

Then you could look through the mobygames strategy/tactics lists by platform, maybe click on the years to limit it to the late '90s:
http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/dos/strategy/

And it wasn't an Empire or Conquest game?

I remember I played it a lot around 1999 but it could have been DOS. Not sure. I don't see it listed on Moby (at least among the strategy games with "Global" in the title), and it was not Empire or Conquest.

Basically it was a simple Risk/A&A type game. You could be 1 of 5 or so colors/countries, and in the beginning of the game you would take turns selecting your territories. North America was maybe divided into 6 sections. You had tanks and infantry which you could buy after each turn.

If it's a Risk clone, maybe it's in this list: https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/ge ... -game-risk
