help noob with wing commander privateer?

hey i jsut got this game, i beat 2 pirates, and it felt great! but my ship got pretty battered. my screen is flashing and wires are hanging out. everytime i leave base and get attacked i die, how do i repair my ship?

thanks, is there a way to fix my ships damaged display? it is annoyingly flickering.

also, how do i know how much ships are?

and can i save while in flight?

You can only access the save function of your computer whilst in dock/base.

Repair your ship: in the bases or even better get yourself a repair droid ... or was that in the sequel...? Don't remember, sorry.
If some part of the ship is damaged beyond repair replace it.
