#dosgames needs more users!

Post by 5hfifty »

The Dosgames chatroom needs more users, it's dead way too much. If you want to know how to get there, read this: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53

There's usually someone there at most times. A java IRC client would be cool to put on the forum too. :) And while you're there, visit #nukum! ;)

Hope to see more of you on there soon.

It's futile. Very few people who visit the forum use (m)IRC. And, if a Java chat EVER gets added, I shall hunt down and slay the one who creates it.

I've never seen you on once... stupid time differences. :( anyhow, there are usually only 4 or 5 people, half of them away.

Is anyone in favor of IRC over a Java chat room? What about a compromise, a Java IRC client you can use from the web, like PJIRC?

http://www.pjirc.com/main.php

Does anyone know of a good free Java chat client they can recommend?

I think that's what the above people meant.

Anyway, I know GH uses JavIRC, but I think that might be shareware.

A Java-IRC chat isn't that hard to put in, I believe, and it's easy for everyone. They allow you to just pick a nick-name and sign in (it looks like you're signing into a chat when it's really just an IRC server and channal masked), is graphical, can be put in a link on the message board (so instead of install mIRC new users can see the big friendly "join our chat!" button at the bottem of the message board and would be more likey to join and talk) and most importantly, it's still an IRC channal so those of us who know our way around IRC and who don't prefer to have our connection slaughtered by a Java application can still use IRC clients to connect... no need to modify the actual channal at all! B)

See http://www.gamehippo.com/ for an example of a JavIRC chat.

I can add one to a version of subsilver so that you can chat on the main index at the bottom. Want me to?

Sure... but e-mail it to Emmzee when you have, I can't add it-don't have the access to do so.
