Your simplified approach does even come close to solving

I recently dled "Dragon's Gate" an old game when i tried to run it, the display is all messed up !!, i tried the all competability wizard and you know what?, it didn't help at all !!, not even running vberfrsh help me, does anyone know how i can run this game on my system (k6-2 350 MHz, voodoo3 3000)

the voodoo card may be ur problem... apparently many older dos games won't work with a voodoo card.
