Dosgames.com chatroom now open for the public!

Post by Dogbreath »

Many users in the past have requested that we add a message board for dosgames.com, unfortunately, due to difficulties, we were unable to add one. Until now...

Dosgames. com's chartroom, #dosgames, is an IRC channel located on the server austnet. If you are new to IRC I would recommend you read the following "IRC newbies guide" that I wrote.

GETTING STARTED

1. Download and install mIRC. (http://www.mirc.com/ ) mIRC is, IMO, the easiest to learn Unix application in existence. Of course, that doesn't say very much for it...

2. Load it up, the first thing you will see is the registration screen. You can either be a good person and buy it or you can just click past it.

3. Now you should see the options screen. On the top right corner of the Options screen you should see a small button that says ADD. Click this. Now, under 'Description' put Austnet; under 'IRC Server' put au.austnet.org; under 'Port(s)' put 6667; Under 'Groups' place Austnet. Ignore the password field, that is only required of special users such as IRCOPS.

4. Now go to the bottom field of the options window. Under 'Full Name' enter your name, this will appear in your whois report. Under 'E-mail address' enter your e-mail. Under 'Nickname' enter the name you want to be seen as in a Internet Relay channel Under 'Alternative Nickname' enter
your Alt-nick.

5. Now click okay and press the connect button. If your computer doesn't start smoking and threatening to kill you at this point then you've done better then most.

6. Now, give it some time to boot up. Once it's done the first thing you should do is type /MSG nickop register < password > < Email> in the main window. (replace with your password, it must be at least 5 chars long and contain at least one number. Replace <Email with your e-mail) Make sure you remember your password!

7. Now type /msg [email protected] identify , you will have to do this everytime you log in to identify yourself.

8. Type /join #Dosgames.

RULES

Now that you are on #Dosgames you need to know some of the rules.

Please do not excessively flame any user.
Please try to listen to OPs and do as they ask, it will generally make their job a tad bit easier.
Please try to be gracious and polite while using our channel. Refrain from acting vulgar.
Please DO NOT pretend to me another user, you could mean it as a joke but it is considered trolling and cannot only get you banned from the channel but the entire server as well.
Please don't Spam or flood.
Please DO follow the rules. :)

If you break one of these rules the first time the punishment will be a warning from one of the operators. The second time you will be kicked (you may rejoin at any time) the third time is a second kick, an OP will then engage in a private chat session with you to tell you what you are doing wrong. If you continue to break the rules after that you will be banned. (Note: warnings and bans are usually held for a very short period, usually only until your IRC session ends. If you are found to be a constant trouble maker though, then an owner will permanently ban you from the channel)

OPERATORS

These are the current operators for #Dosgames:

Owner level (200): Dogbreath
Emmzee (if he comes on)

Head Operator level (150): Phunk (also known as Zadijan
)

Operator level (100): John the Ax (JTA)
Da_Goat
Wardrich

RECOMENDED CHANNELS

These are some channels on the same server that we recommend.

#help: A channel with users who answer your newbie IRC questions. *
#Phunk: A new Dos/zzt/old gaming channel owned by one of our OPs.
#Loungeact: A zzt channel beloved my many of us.

Typing /help will bring up a help menu that will help you learn some of the basic commands of IRC.

Thank you for reading through this! Now /join #dosgames already!

to log in automatically and have it auto identify your name.

<B>go OPTIONS>PREFORM

put a check in the box

and in the blank space go

/join #dosgames
</B>

This will automatically bring you into #dosgames as soon as you connect to the server.

now to auto identify. Your name must already be registered (of course!)

<b>
Go OPTIONS>PREFORM

and under /join #dosgames

</b> put

<b>
/msg [email protected] identify <password>

</b> <i>Replace <password> with your password</i>

so here is what it would look like if your password was INK84

/msg [email protected] identify INK84

so this is exactly what it should look like

<b>
|X| Enable perform on connect

-------------------------------------------------------
Network:
All Networks [Add] [Delete]
-------------------------------------------------------
/join #dosgames
/msg [email protected] identify <password>

----------------------------------------------------------

[OK] [Cancel] [Help]

-------------------------------------------------------------

</b>

and click on OK!

I hate to break this to you, but that doesn't work... It says there is no such nickname or channel...

c'mon people, we need EVERYBODY to join #dosgames. It defeats the purpose of a chat if people don't join! So join!

im working on the web-based chat... two outta the 3 i have picked are at these locations.. this is temporary, just so you can see what it would look like. The third is the best, but is gunna take some time to get going.

Board 1
www.geocities.com/gokusonca/chat_room_one.html

Board 2
www.geocities.com/gokusonca/chat_room_two.html

And me and wardich are working on a site, you'll see it eventually.
