DOS game music ripping

Small question... Is it possible to rip the music off of a DOS game that has evidently absent music files, such as... Blood, and deposit them on the harddrive as a midi or something?

Blood in particular is what I want, so if you can point me to some music elsewhere, hey, jim fine and dandy, but while I'm at it, why not Commander Keen 4+5, Master of Orion, and stuff like that.

Just.... Well, kinda general stuff, I guess. Any help is appreciated.

It looks as though it takes a lot of work though, and two computers and a link - I would use a mixer like a cassette deck with an "CD line in" port. Personally, when I dub music from the computer I just have a cord that can plug from the audio plug in on the back of my computer to my boombox, then I press record and play the music I want. I edit with a mixer.

Sounds way too complicated. If I want to record the sounds my computer makes, the "What U Hear" option of Audacity does the job perfectly. Thing is, then the background noises are heard, like the Blood guy opening his grave, saying "I live again!" [which is awesome] and stuff, hence why ripping the music directly out would be best.

I don't know of any sofware, but if you use an auxillary line hookup to go from a cassette deck into your computer you can loop it (Most music from Commander Keen, if I remember right, is a loop anyway, and I don't think MOO has any background sound.) and edit it on your cassette deck, then copy it back onto the computer with this:
http://girl.yowstar.com/ and burn it to a CD. That's what I do when I edit my music, but I don't know of any software that can run cooperatively with the game to record.
You have to pay for GIRL but you can run the demo version.
Kra edit (or Kradj or something) is a good, simple freeware editing program, but it has spyware with it - I lost the link but it shouldn't be that hard to find.

I ripped music successfully from many games using Nero Wave Editor and the "What U Hear" recording option. Like Swiftman said, something needs to be done about the background sounds to get clean music, but in most games you can turn off the sound effects and keep the music on.

the problem with the midi is you dont get the ambience sounds.

yes... on the cd in the extras/goodies folder... check it out... theres loads of stuff on the cd.
this is one of many reasons for duke nukem 3d's success.

They can be easily extracted from the DUKE3D.GRP file...

However, the Duke Nukem 3D Total Meltdown (Playstation) soundtrack is _THE BEST_.
