Upgrades

Post by Elign »

A long time ago, I upgraded my old 486 from 4 MB RAM to 8 MB RAM just so I could play Duke Nukem 3-D (This was around 1996-1997).

Anyone else upgrade their machine just to play a DOS game?

My first machine was already a P100, so it ran most of the DOS games fine.

Mine was exactly same (and to get more to fit).
NO Windows, NO DOSBox, DOS!

Had to buy a new comp to play games at all. I think it was back in 94. 98 or so another new one. I rarely upgrade.

My whole PC gaming experience was built around upgrading processors, adding ram, sound cards, video cards, and joysticks.

my first PC was a IBM Aptiva 2144-910 model, it was a 486 DX-2 66mhz whit 4mb ram and 540mb hardrive, no soundcard or cd-drive was included, i added a 8mb SIMM module later so it was a total of 12mb ram and then i also added a Soundcard called Optimap pro (crap one) now the computer has ended up whit 4.3gig hardrive and Soundblaster 64AWE and cd-reader and 48mb of memory, i love my IBM it's good whit old games and Windows95B :)
