Try QBasic, it comes with MS-DOS 5.0, 6.x, Windows 95, and Windows 98. It has a help file that explains the code.

I never learned much of the help file... You'd better try the tutorials at www.qbasic.com. I learned programming in QBasic from them and although I haven't done it in a long time I still know some things. QBasic is good to start with anyway because you will understand much more of Visual Basic, PHP and ASP if you once coded in QBasic... so have a look at it...

The help file helped me a lot. When I made my games, I looked at it dozens of times.
