Dungeon Keeper Gold Sound Problems

Post by Plethora22 »

I downloaded the ripped version of DK-G from HoTU yesterday and while the game itself runs fine (didn't have a single problem) there is no sound or music and I'm just plain stumped.

As this is the windows version, there shouldn't be any need to set up the sound. Its a ripped version so its not that analog CD audio thing that was mentioned elsewhere on this forum. I have googled every combination of dungeon keeper gold and sound problems I can thing of and can't even find anyone else with a similar problem.

Obviously this leads me to believe its something to do with my computer and not the game, but I haven't the slightest idea what it could be. Any suggestions are welcome.

Got the game from HotU too. Exactly the same problem. Tried VDM but that doesn't help any. Checking the installation folder the only sound files that are evident are the good/bad wave files that should be played on the level select map, which do not play either.

Following on the previous post...

Some more searching on the net came up with this info:

Sound consists of speech (40 wav files in the ATLAS subdirectory for the introductions and conclusions of the 20 levels, and a 11MB SPEECH.DAT for the in-game messages) and sound effects (23MB SOUND.DAT)."

The speech and sound dat files are not present in the download from HotU :blah: so it seems that unless you can get these files from somewhere else you will have to try and find an original copy of the game.

Mainly a rip is called a rip because some files(sound, video, registry entries and so on) are RIPed from the install of the game. You know that you have to run a setup.bat file. Usualy a rip has the sound and video files(those that WERE included into the rip) in one or two large files. Setup.bat decompresses the files. The rest of the process is TABU. Just believe it

Double checked the unpacked files, but there is no sign of a setup file (other than the one that adds D3D support). Having said that the write up on HotU talks of running it succesfully on xp. Have to say I'm stumped, short of downloading it again just in case by some coincidence the relevant sound files were lost during connection interruption.

I was talking about the setup.bat that unpacks the files... It's used to make you'r life easyer: Instead of running XPack, then Inflate, then Regedit you just enter setup.bat, sit back and relax.

I'll download the HOTU rip just to see what this thing is all about.
note: those names are most surely not present in your game. I was just giving an example.

Ok this is odd! Whatever I try to download I keep being redirected to the "Ooops" page on HOTU! What's wrong?
I mean NO downloads work! I tried at least 20 games! :(

http://www.the-underdogs.info/

make sure your visiting there (link above) and not there old site... as there old site doesnt work with there anti leeching.

-----
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_of_the_Underdogs

that link says the site above was not fully accessible without editing some windows files till september 2006... which was when it was fixed to act like any site and not require changing any of your files to access it.

I DID use http://www.the-underdogs.info/

I went to the search field. Punched in "Dungeon Seeker". Found the game. Went to the dld area. Punched in the code. Hit enter. And I got to the Oooops page!
Then I tried to get Rollcage(my CD stoped working last week) and Revolt, and many other random games. The same result!

You did not seem to come from the right URL. This means the referrer has not been set properly, or you didn't come from the Home of the Underdogs at all.
That's what they say! I don't get it I cleared my cookies, cache and history. And it still doesn't work!

What does that mean? I DID come from the-underdogs.info!
This is realy weird! :shifty:

Still no luck with this anyone? I downloaded another copy of DK via p2p just to check the list of files, and there is a whole load of files missing from the version I got from HotU. Unfortunately this other version I got hold of is Italian, so while I can replace the sfx obviously the narration is useless (and has been done by someone who sounds no way as good as the guy who did the english narration). Anyway I may try downloading again from HotU just in case I lost a whole chuck of stuff during download. Let me know if you have any success.
