Sim Tower problems [Vista]

Post by Crazy H »

Hey, i'm having pretty much the same problems. I'm on vista, i've been downloading old dos games i used to play from dosgamesonline.com and playing them with DOSBox. When i tried Sim Tower i got an error saying i need Windows to run it, i tried running the Setup.exe on its own, it opened, asked where i wanted to install to. As the installation starts a message comes up saying it cannot access one of the files (SIMTDEMO.EX_).

This happens everytime, I've got the game on disk as well I'll see if it works but i'd really like to have it in a folder with all the other old games. Hope this thread can find the answers :)

It works perfectly from disk. So does this mean the files i downloaded are faulty? The fact that a couple of them, including the one that produces an error message have DEMO in their names causes slight concern, maybe guest has downloaded the game from the same website? Either way I'll be checking back here to see if you guys manage to find a way around this.

Dosgamesonline only host the DEMO ... so yes, you get the demo ....

Better take a look @ Abandonia, they host the full game.

Next, in my opinion you best run the game in Dosbox 0.74+Win3x, runs flawless.

There are several reasons to run those ol'Wingames in Dosbox 0.74+Win3x, one of them is that those games will install all kind of completely obsolete DLL's in your /windows/system/ folder and a lot more crap in your C: drive, with dosbox you can run them ol'things in a complete safely manner without screwing something up in your modern OS's system files.

BTW runs also fine in VPC2007/MsDos-W3.x or VPC2007/W98SE but that's a bit more complicated then dosbox .....

There you'll find all that's needed (except W3.x of course ... but that's not hard to find ...) to set up a nice working Dosbox-W3.x.

And as you're on Vista you will encounter write restrictions.
To avoid those:

This game refuses to run in windows vista. I have it. I tried downloading it from Abandonia but it still won't work on Vista.

You need
Or dosbox + Win3
Or VPC 2007 +MsDos/Win3
Or VPC 2007/Win98SE
to run the game on Vista.

And now AB host the full dosbox 0.74/Win3 package.

Read carefully the instructions how to proceed, do NOT extract win3 stuff into your own windows dir !!!!!!!!!!!
