Lands of Lore 2 config question.

Post by xenial »

Hi,

I made original ISOs from the original disks. The problem I've been having is a "bug" in the Huline Jungle bit. When I get to the cantina to visit Bacatta, the video doesn't load and my game crashes. I've tried several settings and can't get anything to work. Is there a simple fix for this? I'm running dosbox on Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've no idea on the Lands of Lore specific issues, but here are some general comments in case any are helpful:

Gog.com has the Lands of Lore series. Usually $6, maybe on sale right now for $1.50 (or whatever local currency)
https://www.gog.com/game/lands_of_lore_1_2

If you buy it, they probably got it working, and they support it (at least a bit!).

Also, maybe browsing gog.com's Lands of Lore support forum gives some hints? Looks like others have occasional trouble too:

---

Generically, if you (temporarily?) turn off all sounds in the game config, that can get you past some areas with sound bug issues that tend to crash games. If that works, you can often turn sound back on after passing that section.

Sometimes you can just set dosbox config to turn off the sound card and only use pc speaker / beeper.

---

And absolute worst case, sometimes people solve video problems by copying a different video file over the "broken" one. That disrupts the game story, but lets you continue, assuming you can figure out the filenames and the game doesn't refer to specific areas in the file. Use an earlier one you already know works, if possible. :) If you need the storyline, hopefully somebody put the "right" video on youtube and you can just watch it there.

---

That's my generic bag of tricks, hopefully that or someone else can help you get further!

---

edit: Oh, and looks like there are various discussions on youtube and vogons (dosbox) and so forth that discuss installation and misc problems, worth a look?

Thanks for the reply! The GOG version looks decent and I may give that a go. It's not a bad price. I still play the game years later.
