Report Function.

This function might come in use for us moderators and all the users that want to be moderators.

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/5337 is an option

dugahdfugjdfik :D:D:D:DD::D then a user such as robhofen or JKSM or any other user could click report and the post would be reported to Any Moderator or admin to fix up.

this would resolve our backseat moderation issues and give everyone a chance to look after our forum.

What backseat moderator issue? Just because you're never around doesn't mean we have a backseat issue my friend. I frequent the forums several times a day often deleting posts as I go, I just don't bother to mention it to anyone, because, well, why would I?

well we do miss posts every occasion.

Also we arent around as much.

emmzee liked the idea but didnt want to be involved in the post scrambling.

I thought an gmail account could be opened for reporting.

TSM: its more a community feature so we can live in peace

It's not a bad idea I guess, just your reasoning was, well, not great. If emmzee wants it or thinks it's a good idea I don't know why we're even discussing it, it's his forum after all.

But the whole, people can use it to try and become mods. That's just going to get annoying and not how we should, in my opinion, be promoting the feature.

No i dont wish to promote it. It will be only avaliable to members.

It clearly will be only used to report posts which conflict with our rules

Ermm, just to clarify. I said that I personally didn't feel that a reporting system is necessary, but if ppl were into it, that I would be glad to install such a system.

The main disadvantages to a reporting system, as I see it, are:

1) Abuse of the reporting system

2) Mods would then have to log in to check the shared "abuse" email account, rather than just checking the boards ... of course, they'd still have to check the boards. So it wouldn't really save much time .....

I actually like the idea. If anything, it'd cut down on a lot of the fights between members so instead of posts full of "you stupid moron, you should be banned for your opinion, blah blah blah" we'd just get e-mails, which could either be acted on or deleted quickly enough without getting other posters involved.

I'm in favor of at least giving it a try.

Invision Board has a feature like that built in. So I see no reason why we shouldn't have something like it here.

Invision Boards are also ugly as sin, but I guess it won't hurt to give it a try.

Is this function new? Maybe for this particular one. However, I have seen a forum using it for years already.

Dosgames forum doesn't have that heavy posting like >100 posts a day so it doesn't really matter whether it has the reporting post function or not.

In case, anyone is interested in how it works on the forum that uses it. It only has members posting and thus only available to members. When the button is clicked, it comes to a screen. On the left of the screen is a warning: "This is ONLY to be used to report spam, ....." On the right side of the screen is a box to state the reason for reporting the post. At one time, they changed to a multiple choice for reason with an others option (please specify). Then they changed back to the simple format. After typing reason, clicking send. Then the forum will send an e-mail to the moderators of that forum section. The reported post e-mail is something like notification of thread subscribed with a link to the post except there is the reported post reason and member nick. One thing is that if you have a few people reporting the same post, you will have a few e-mails. :D

It's definitely not new, I've seen it used a few times on other phpBB boards and it's build in the those hideous Invision boards.

On March 23rd, 2006, Wally*Won_Kenobie, Thunderdog, and Dogbreath all agreed on something. This would prove to be a dark, dark day for mankind.

I do agree with the backseat moderation issue, I believe most mods are from America (Or canada), and as a resident of Europe I do notice the crap and such.

And the only other mod who frequents the forum is Mr. Worm and yes he's from America.
