Forum for all the suggestions that have 1. nothing to do with our two websites (Dosgames.com/ DosGamesArchive) and 2. are not bug reports.

Rules Update

Post by Wally »

Could we please update the rules so that if any guest posts a smiley post their account will be suspended (for a day??) under no circumstances?

Im guessing this method is one of the only ways we can have guest forums..

We really need more active mods and admins so that the actions can be taken. Or perhaps an automated service?

It's awful hard when all guests share the same "account".

The only way to ban them would be an IP address ban, and even that is precarious.

Wally. How many of these 1 smiley guests do you think actually read the rules? It wouldn't be worth it, not in law, and not in enforcement.

DogBreath Some Do not read the Rules and just post what they want to is there a way that you can ban Guest and have Member only post on the forum.

Guest are already restricted .
They can only post in the "open forum" sections.
"Get games to work" and "Game Help, Hints and Tips".

[EDIT]
forgot "Find Old Games"

Maybe in the open forums you can add a sticky topic that says "Rules for Guests".
If they tolerate any of the rules they will be warned but if they do it again they will be IP banned. That will make the guests think "okay I'm not going to do that"

The same rules apply to the guests as do members. If they're not going to read the member rules, they're not going to read the guest rules. There's no point in doing so.

hey yeah!

Upon writing every post a guest would get that. And might encourage them to register if long term

Maybe have a list of what benefits regular users

Emmzee: Maybe you could mod quick reply so it only works for registered members if you havent already done so.

Short of putting "DO NOT MAKE POSTS CONTAINING JUST SMILIES!" in large red text above where the guest user enters their message, there's likely nothing we can do to stop the 1-smiley posts (by guests, anyways). Putting just a few rules on the page itself for guest posts means that people will do everything else that's not listed there ... putting a link to the rules means people will just ignore it (seriously, have you EVER read the forum rules before posting on a forum ... I never have) ... and putting all of the rules on the page itself means that people will just scroll right past it.

It's unfortunately impossible to force guest posters to use common sense (mostly because what should be common sense isn't that common at all) and some people will just be jerks no matter what ya do. It's unfortunate but, hey what can you do. I admit that all those smileys do look rather tempting ...

can we IPban guests who do nothing but spam. These Chinese advertisements are just weird: WTF do they gain from an obscure link that noone can read, and the smileys are just as bad.

Alternately allow guests to post only plaintext, no smilies, no links, no fonts etc.

sorry....................................

I don't think it is possible to stop guest spamming, the only way is not allowing guest posting. More and more forums don't allow guest posting anymore, maybe for good, maybe for worst, who knows.
And also there are tig's dead forums on internet.......
Maybe not many, but still some guest posters become regulars.
Without new posters a forum dies, slowly.....has been proven from the times of the BBS t'll now. A slow unavoidable, awful dead.

And what are we going to do about that? It takes a whole bunch of space and loading time. I suggest IP banning them without warning. And guests should not be allowed to use smilies or post URL's. That will clean up some of the crap this forum has been haveing.

Why just make A forum just for guest and close the other forum that allow guest to post I think that will stop it.
