DOS vector-style block pusher around 1995 [CyberBox]

Post by iwingspan »

Played around 1995 via DOS on Windows 95. The game was probably older than that, it was part of a huge set of games. Somewhat like Sokoban, but the goal was to move your character from the start of the maze to the ending square by pushing blocks. Each block could only be pushed in a particular direction. Only the arrow keys were used.

The view was top-down, with a dark background, all graphics were abstract simple vector style. I've written a modern version of it that looks like this:

I also found a modern-ish analog on the seatback unit of a plane called "Caveman" made in 2013:

This group includes normal sokoban game play 'push crate to a specific location', but also games that only requires you to open a path to the exit.

Thanks for the response! I've combed through the sokoban variants on Moby as well as all the top-down puzzle games, but haven't seen anything yet. I guess I'll just keep working on bringing my own version to light!

Two games come to mind: Cyberbox (or its remake) and Block-O-Mania.

Yes, that is it! I must have passed it by on MobyGames because of the title screen! Noob mistake. Thank you!

So was it Cyberbox or Block-O-Mania? Cyberbox is still available from the author's website.

CyberBox is now available from DOS Games Archive. You can play right in the browser (Chrome recommended).
