A side scrolling car game, seems to be rare, one player only [Moon Buggy]

Post by tryfinding »

I have been searching this for years, and here comes the day I found this forum;
and I m here to try my luck;
here s the descrition;
first of all , I browsed all the games this website provided , suggesting that the one I m finding isnt around,
however,I managed to find some similar games, and I would turn em into clues,

and this the first one ,
car1996.PNG
car1996.PNG (40.78 KiB) Viewed 4154 times
the game I m finding is quite similar to this one ,but smoother and with better graphic ,

the thing you control in this game , is a grey car with smaller front wheel ,
and you cant stop it, all you can do is to slowdown and accerelate,
as you will encounter enemies and traps , the developers offered you the abillity to jump, as well as the ability to shot forward and upward at the same time;

considering it is a hard game for kids , I guess the developers wanted to make it ezer , so they set lots of check point in each level , and to describe these check points : they are small white rectangle seemed to be buried in the road , and it will turn yellow when you activate them as any part of the car reach that place;

and we got boss in this game ; but all I can remember is a mechanism ball ,which is surrounded by much smaller yellow balls , and those yellow balls would spin as a shield;
you must shot down those balls to cause some damage to the boss, those balls wont respawn;

for more details about the proper time this game was created;
well , I was a kid when I first lay my hands on keyboard ,
my parents got me a secondhand computer , whose OS was windows98 ,
and apperantly , someone's junk became my treasure;
I cant remember clearly about how I encountered this game,maybe from some disk ;
all I can remember is the game came as a bundle , and this game is also included in the bundle

along with some bored game ;

and this is it , all I can remember about this game ;
and I want to play this game again be4 corona virus catch me and kill me. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

help me ,plz :cry:

and I may not be able to reply in time cuz the time zone stuff; plz excuse me lul;

I don't recognise your game but I tried combining several search parameters at MobyGames, and first found another similar title (judging by the description at least):
https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/offroad

This can't be your game because it has even more primitive graphics than Car, but it is included in a larger list of car combat games:
https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/ge ... t,0/so,1a/

Maybe you'll find your game there.

And thanks for providing those website,
the websites you provided seem to be worth another try,so ,I would try digging there later. :clap: :clap: :clap:

No worries, MobyGames is a good searching tool, it just takes time to try out the various parameters. Also it is not 100% complete, and some games are real obscure, especially on older systems. Good luck in your search!

Sounds like it could be some clone or remake of moon patrol.

Sorry for taking you forever to get a reply, for I had been digging this game elsewhere ,

And I now realize that :thumbsup: the one I am looking for is a moon patrol type game :thumbsup: ,

However , as I have been digging everywhere , the miserable fact is , I can't find it anywhere even with patience and keyword.

For none of the result connected to the keyword moon patrol matchs. :lolcat:

Expecting more clue :o thanks.

Uh, well, I happened to have a desire for trying some similar game, and I searched that game name moon buggy in your link, after some digging,
somehow, I think that is the one I'm looking for,
Mostly match, and I think some memory disorder happened to me.

However, information on Moby game site about this game was wrong,
This game was built for Windows 98/95, as I remember, rather than Linux,

And that why I can't find it with Windows platform tag :suspicious: :suspicious: :suspicious:

After all, I'm so delightful to recover my childhood,

And, the full version of this game is missing in the database I found so far.

Only lite version available.

Thanks again.

So it's this game?

Linux games are open source; so anyone can port them to any other platforms, including Windows. I can't find any mention of a Windows port so far.

The user who contributed information about the game to MobyGames was likely just not aware of the Windows version.

However there appears to be another, different game called Moon Buggy that is for Windows and uses graphics:

Here's a screenshot.
