Web beat-'em-up game

So my cousins and I were talking about games that we used to play as kids during our childhood. We then talked about this web game that we would always play and beat it over and over again. We couldn't remember the name of the game but it was about beating people up. The game had multiple stages and you can buy yourself weapons to become stronger so you could beat the next stages. That is all we really remember about the game. The game also has a dark atmosphere around it. It was also kinda like a 2-D and side-scroller game with a bird view from above.
