OpenTESArena - The Elder Scrolls: Arena engine recreation

Post by MrFlibble »

A while ago I discovered this little open source project which aims to recreate The Elder Scrolls: Arena engine entirely from scratch: OpenTESArena. It's still in somewhat early stages of development but you can download working builds to try it out. A new version has been released recently, with some pretty neat features. Here's an official video:

An engine recreation of Arena is quite welcome as the game has some pretty annoying limitations and issues, such as CPU-clock-defined speed and limited sound channels.

Sweet! I loved that game, and if Daggerfall hadn't been even better and taken its place it would probably still be on my top 10. I pull it out and play now and then, especially since it's available on Gog and so forth.

A working tweakable engine would be fantastic. Oh how I wish I didn't need a day job, so many projects I could be involved in!

Just noticed that there has been a recent release less than a month ago:
