Not sure how long this is running for, but gog.com is offering <a href="http://www.gog.com/game/bio_menace">Biomenace for free</a>.

Um, this game's been officially freeware since December 2005. You can get it from 3D Realms or third-party sites like RGB Classic Games.

Might be on Gog's "always free" list.

They'll keep it running on modern OSs (in Dosbox) and let you download it any time, and won't you please check out the rest of their (not free) catalog...

Arena and Daggerfall are sort of that way, too, and a bit funny - last I saw you had to buy one of the non-free Elder Scrolls games they carry, and then you got them free.

edit: Ah, but if they are advertising as part of special, maybe not always free.

I think this might be related to the recent transfer of right to the Duke Nukem franchise from 3D Realms to Gearbox. There was that bundle of 3D Realms/Apogee games (not sure if GOG.com distributed that one though) which will have to be rearranged now that 3D Realms does not own the Duke IP.
