I noticed that after a certain update the site started using some external downloader programme instead of direct download links. I wonder why?

DOSGamesArchive.com does not use a downloader program, at least not anymore, I just checked and the files download directly from their website to your computer.

As always, scan anything that you download just to be safe. Although Jorrit and I work to try to ensure that files we post on our websites are safe, we can make mistakes. You can always use a website like virustotal.com to check your files, and thankfully running DOSBox does provide a certain level of inherent security.
