I went to Nintendo Forums to post Chris's movie, jumped through all the hoops, registered, verified my e-mail, did all the crazy member innitiation stuff, (seriously took about half an hour), and now I'm not allowed to even make my own posts because I don't have a high enough member ranking.

Does anyone here have thread posting access to Nintendo Forums? Do you just need enough posts, or do you need a moderator's permission to post?

*edit* Looked around some more, apparently I need to post for 3 days in the newcomer's section to be accepted into the rest of the community. Bah, oh well, will try again in 3 days...

Oh yea I forgot to mention, my brother posted it on the IGN boards (paid members only area so unfortunately non-members can't see it) and the post got like 40 replies. Most were positive, many said they liked the flash but the ending seemed "tacked on". There were also a few "COLDPLAY SUCKSSSS!!!!!!!!!111" posts Wink But overall ppl were positive 'bout it.

CAT WITH MONOCLE DOUBLE POSTS ... AGAIN! OH NOES!!! Amazed

Heh, no kidding. Either you're being modest or just reeeeally sensitive about your nickname.

While we're still on the subject of nicknames, (better make it quick) funny thing though, I never really intended to call myself Stevenson Christopher or Steve Chris. My real name is Santhosh Stephen Christudas ('Christudas' being my family name), but for some reason no one, not even my Indian friends called me Santhosh. It was always, 'Hey Chris' or 'What's up Stephen?' Santhosh (meaning happiness) is a pretty common name around here, and being one of the minority Christians round these parts, Stephen always seemed more recognizable so I kind of lost touch with my real first name for a long while

I decided to change it to Stephen son of Chrisudas. I hated Christudas, so I changed it to Christopher instead (just to piss my dad off) and to make it even MORE catchier and er... powerful? it became Stevenson Christopher. That was the pen name I wanted to keep whenever I did ANYTHING from now on, and Steve Chris would just be a shorten form for it.

All this information was just to clear any doubts some of you may have as to why a guy named Steve Chris looks like some south Asian dork Tbbbbbth!

It's a pity though, cuz I really like my real first name Santhosh, but the spelling mistakes and horrible pronounciations by others, make me hate it all the more!!

The - Makes me sound important.
Sinister - I'm evil! Tbbbbbth!
Mastermind - I'm cleverer then you!

And that’s the history of my name...

I have however, over the years, (As in about 5 seconds ago when I thought of this) considered ‘Random Spank Monkey’. But that just sounds like some random kinky shit and is likely to give off the wrong impression... Confuzzled What? Err yeah, so anyway, if we've got some mirrors going I might post this at a few forums I go to, none sure how it'll be received but there's only one way to find out.

Here's a few of the comments from the IGN boards post:

"It was pretty good, IMO. The message at the end felt a little out of place and it seems a little bit unsual to talk about morals with Mario, but overall I liked it. The goomba and baby Mario in the beginning was my favorite part."

"it was awesome... until that lame hippy crap at the end. the rest was great tho"

"Wow, that was great. At first I thought it would be some lame crap about Mario dumping Peach, but that was totally worth watching."

"I didn't make it very far. I am about as far as you can get from a Coldplay fan, and I just couldn't stand it past the part where Mario jumped into the lava."

"If the text at the end was not there it would have been great."

"I liked it."

"I didn't know the disgust over the attrocities of men knew any political bounds. Although I agree the ending felt a little tacked on and seemed to have little relevance to Mario. I usually don't go for the 2D pixelated stuff in videos like these but I really enjoyed it. The production value could use a little work but it was so well done and the music fit in the same way opposites seem to attract. Coldplay and Mario aren't exactly symmetrical but it really works with the video."

"i thought the ending test was kind of trite...it would have been better if he just got his message across just using the flash vid.
i think its stupid to call it lame hippy crap though..."

"Very touching but most of the nerds on here have no feelings since they have to cover their lack of self confidenced ass's.
I cried (maybe not but I tried to Tbbbbbth!)"

"Why did he mention a minor player like Osama Bin Laden? Replacing his name with Bush would have made more sense, as the destruction done by him are much greater... you don't have to try to be evil to cause massive damage if you are stupid ... that said, neither one of these deserve to be on the same list with Hitler, who destroyed much more, and whose intelligence was twice the one of the two others' combined - intelligence and a goal like his are a destructive combination"

"Very powerfull. I honestly got a little teary towards the end."

"I thought it was well made but Mario should not be political."

"Cold Play sucks."

Soooo there you have it lol Celebratory

Wally suggested to submit it to albinoblacksheep.com, which I have done. I also was going to submit it to eBaumsWorld.com, but the "agreement" kinda put me off ... Steve if you want to submit it there, here's the site:

http://upload.ebaumsworld.com/

Just make sure you read the agreement first so you know what you'd be agreeing to Happy

KING OF DOUBLE POSTS

Ahem. The albinoblacksheep guy responded:
"The animation is great. This can be one of the most memorable sprite movies. Is the author willing to add a "hosted by" link to ABS at the end of the flash? You may have noticed this is something asked for all recent submissions."

I think he just wants a link like you see on the other flash, on the albinoblacksheep.com front page. So if you wanna do that it sounds like he'll post it Congratulatory Its a pretty popular site.

I've been on Nintendo Forums whenever I'm on the computer, reading, posting, getting my rank up in the newbie forum, trying to get thread creation access. Isn't there anyone else that has access to those forums already?

Going from all the replies we've gotten from your movie so far, I'd reccomend a couple things. Firstly, a lot of people thought the text at the end lowered the overall quality of the movie. I personally liked it, but maybe you could take out all the text except for the "Or is there a better way?" at the very end. Keep the suspension of reality. (Which is absolutely critical for short pieces)

Secondly, I'd highly reccomend that either you, or some unfortunate bastard you can bribe, work to make Laughing Games a real website, not just a Yahoo group. I don't have much experience with web design, but I'd be willing to help over the next couple weeks if you need anything. I'm sure Jorrit or Emmzee would host you (for a while at least), and some of the posters here (Kazer0, for example) are pretty talented with computer art and skins and whatnot. Registering a domain would be the worst part, but, depending on how much traffic you get, you might be able to make it up with ads.

Just a couple random thoughts. Keep on making more Flash animations, btw!

Ah Dogbreath, you wouldn't believe for the longest time how afraid I was to post that last bit of text there myself. I initially wanted to make it into every other Flash sprite movie, with Mario coming back, the Goomba coming back to life, the princess blah blah blah and end it saying some common line, but suddenly I got this idea to make it totally different from ANY other sprite movie, and put a piece of my own self into it by revealing to a sudden reality, just to make sure people didn't take it for granted, and, even if some don't aprove of it, they will remember it. Yes I agree, there WILL be a few here and there that would think this was too political, and even some websites like www.pushthebuttons.com, www.flashplayer.com etc. have rejected this movie for that, but I am willing to sacrifice all that for the pure fact of enlightening people from the devestation of war in my simplest humble way. Without the final words, I feel by own artistic integrety, that the movie would become shallow and meaningless. Thank you for your suggestion though. As long as you liked it, don't bother about what other people think. That principle alone would save this world from sooooo many stereotypical art ALWAYS trying to please the crowd with age old formulas Sarcastic

Also the amount controversy created by this movie on the opinions and views are concerned amuses me greatly. But I am working on an alternate ending for this which will have the entire message done in Flash sprites itself.

The old Steve will be back soon with some meaningless harmless crazy wacky Game adventures soon enough. Congratulatory Trust me, NONE of the Flash movies I make here after will ever be like this daring, that's why I like to keep this one as daring as possible Wink The final message gives power I think to the whole movie.

As for the Yahoo Group page yeah I'm a lazy bastard Tbbbbbth! but hey it helps me keep a track of my members, page views and stuff.

My friend and I are trying to build a website soon. He's in UK at the moment busy with some other projects but soon we are hoping to build a totally Flash based website, with a sexy hostess cartoon that guides you around. I've already registered the domain name www.laughinggames.com almost a year ago, and have been forwarding the URL to the Yahoo Group.

Also I am about to take the plunge and submit my Flash to Albinosheep, and Ebaumsworld. Also a whole lot of members from Flashplayer forums are offering to host my movie on their servers.
