Hi there, I'm new to this so please bear with me if this is a stupid question, I haven't seen it anywhere else on the forum though so here goes:

I'm trying to get Duke Nukem I to work on Vista & have followed all the steps in the stickied 'Dosbox and Vista. [Howto]' thread, only when I attempt to open the game this happens:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/biwa/dosbox.jpg

It seems as though DOSBox knows the game is there because the white boxes appear where, if the game were running properly, there would be an instructions/dialogue box.

Does anyone know a fix for this issue?

Dosbox version?
Mount lines?
What have you done till now to install the game?
How do you run the game?
Where did you get the game?

AKA: details please.......

FYI: DN1 runs flawless on dosbox, so it's pretty safe to assume there is somewhere a screw up, but without any relevant info I can't even guess what's screwed up.

I'm using Dosbox 0.74.

My exact mount lines are:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount c "c:\users\mOwner\oldgames"
c:

To install the game I unzipped the file I downloaded, and ran INSTALL.BAT - I think this is where I went wrong? - and saved to c:\users\mOwner\oldgames\DUKE.

To run I start up DOSBox and type in 'DUKE\DN1' & hit enter.

Oh, and I got the game from dosgamesarchive.com

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me.

Delete that 'duke' folder, in other words: start over from scratch.
Rule of thumb: dosgames must be installed IN dosbox.
Unzip the file you downloaded to
c:\users\mOwner\oldgames\temp\
You must have 3 files in \temp\ now:
install.bat, DN1SW20.SHR and FILE_ID.DIZ
Run dosbox and input:

cd temp
install

Accept everything (simply hit 'enter' when needed.
This will install the game correctly in c:\duke\ (dosbox path, of course) and leave you in c:\duke\
input dn1 to run the game.

Next time you wanna run the game, run dosbox and input:
cd duke
dn1

That's all.
You may delete what's in \temp\ if you want.
