Post subject: Premier Manager 3 multi edit problem |
|
|
Hi,
I've got an old dos 6.22 system and a dosbox running windows pc. I have the same issue with premier manager 3 when trying to use the multi edit system.
Whatever I do, I always get the error "cannot find pm3game.exe" which is the premier manager 3 game executable. I've tried putting it (the pm3game.exe file) in numerous places and making numerous copies of all the files within the pm3ed folder (multi edit installation) and pm3 folder (the original game folder).
Does anyone else have any experience of getting pm3 multi edit to work in the recent past? I've been able to play pm3 using dosbox and my old dos system for a long time, but never to get the editor to work.
All help greatly appreciated!

Did you install the game on those systems?
Is it the original game or downloaded?
Details, details and more details ...... |

Thanks for the reply.
Original game (had to buy it again because I lost the wheel and floppy disks).
I have actually installed it on those systems from the original floppy disks to x:\pm3 for the original game and x:\pm3ed for the editor (default location for both). I assume the editor looks for the game in x:\pm3 but it doesn't seem to be able to find it. |

Keep it on C, that's the common drive for dos.
Isn't there a setup/config file ...?
Should be I guess, look if you can open it with edit-notepad or so.
Look for paths-folder names. |

There's an install config file. (install.cfg) but no config file in the multi edit folder (as there is for pm3 itself).
I've looked through this and I can't find any clues. I assume it expects the pm3game.exe file to be in c:\pm3, but it just doesn't seem to find it.
Might try the abandonware version (sure I have it somewhere). |

Try to add c:\pm and c:\pmed to the dospath under [autoexec] in dosboxconf.
Also: how do you mount your C drive in dosbox? |

Ok will do that. mount c c:\pm3 (which includes a pm3ed and pm3 folder).
So in dosbox C:\pm3 and c:\pm3ed are the paths |

There's no dospath currently defined in the autoexec section.
Would this do
PATH=c:\;C:\pm3;c:\pmed |

Not completely clear here .....
To define a correct path I must know precisely how you mount your virtual C.
Do you mount a folder and do a cd pm?
Do you mount directly your games folder as C ?
Did you read the tutorials that are stickied? There are written for a reason ...
Also: add z:\ to the path as dosbox's dos files are located on the dosbox Z: root. |

| tried mounting both ways you describe. Currently i mount my games folder as 'c' in dosbox. I then cd to the game folder. So my virtual c (mounted in dosbox) includes two directories. C:\Pm3 and c:\pm3ed |

First of all, basic rules for all dosgames, dosbox or not, always use the same folder structure/mounts as when you installed the game.
If I go by your last post and understand it right(?) your path in windows is:
c:\pm\pm3\ and c:\pm\pm3ed\ and you mount c:\pm\ as virtual C:....?
You dosbox path then should be:
path=z:\;c:\;c:\pm3\;c:\pm3ed;
Other question, are there subdirs in your pm or pmedit folder?
Also next question, I wonder if the files for the pmeditor shouldn't be in the PM folder or a pm subdir....?
And another important question: What is your OS? |
