... well not really! But its kiddy clone is.
I illegally downloaded it yesterday. It's 3D Diablo 2 in pretty much every way(even the music resembles the D2 one)
Pretty cool thus far, didn't make it too deep into(what I think is) the first dungeon but on normal difficulty, it's really a pushover. Only fiddled with the warrior(however it's called) and the mage(however it's called). Didn't really like the way both of them had "summon [unit] to aid you in battle" in their ability trees.
Thoughts? |

I downloaded the demo, it's pretty fun, very similar to the company's previous game Fate, except made-over to look/play more like the Diablo 3 videos.
The main problem: No multiplayer. That was a game-killer for me. If it had multiplayer, I would buy it for sure. Without that, no way. |

I can see your point.
I can also see Runic Games didn't bother investing in proper copy protection... |

It's always nice to see more graphical roguelikes, and this one looks like it has some really cool features. (pets, for instance) Downloading the demo on steam ATM.
I've never actually played Diablo on multiplayer, so that isn't an issue for me... I'm a bit of a loner as a gamer, though, just like playing with myself.
Also:
| Quote: | | Runic plans to release an MMORPG set in the Torchlight game world 18 months to two years after the release of the single player game. Max Schaefer, Runic Games CEO and former Mythos executive producer, explained the reasoning behind releasing both a single player game and an MMO. The single player game is intended to introduce the Torchlight game world to the public ahead of the MMO. Further, it would allow the team to get a released game under their belts sooner than if they had immediately started on the MMO.[23] Also, while the Torchlight MMO will be a separate game, it will share the same action RPG gameplay and some of the art assets developed for the single player game.[14] |
One of the biggest draws for me is the game editor coming out, which allows you to create completely new games with the Torchlight engine... I've always been a big fan of modding (a lot of the mods for Dungeon Siege were *much* better than the original game), and this seems like the perfect format for it. |

I dunno, I'd consider getting it just for the single player, but ...
1) I bought Fate, their previous game, which is a lot like this, and played the crap out of it for a week or two until I got sick of it
2) I just bought Borderlands and have been playing that a lot lately on LAN so I don't want to get heavily involved in another RPG atm, I already have no time as it is |

Penny Arcade ran a comic about Torchlight yesterday.
Also wanted to say $19.95 USD for a brand new game is a pretty awesome price - new games usually run $50 here. I enjoyed the demo, and I'll probably buy it this weekend. |
