Post subject: An old game from 5 years ago |
|
|
Hi, I'll try to be as specific as possible here, about 5 years ago i played a 2d game in High School that when you moved a space the game world moved. You could go back to the city and regain body parts if you picked your leg or arm up off the floor, kick things across the dungeon screens, the first boss of the first dungeon was a giant plant thing that made smaller and greater plants to attack you.
If you died, the random dungeon generator put you in another dungeon but with the same boss, occasionally if you died a lot you would come back to the same floor of a dungeon you went to previously and your malevalant ghost would kick your everloving butt, however if you beat your old ghost, you could pick up your old items and become quite the powerhouse. I loved this game very much and couldnt stop playing it even though i never could kill some of the glowing golem things.
Your speed determined if you could run away from enemies and your ghosts would chase you through different floors sometimes. I have totally forgotten the name, but i want to say the word scrolls were in it but thats very doubtful.
Hmm, what else, the lower portions of the dungeons had rocky walls, thats where you could get attacked by really powerful glowy golems, they were very fast and their range of vision greatly outmatched yours, your str determined how much you could carry, etc etc. If I'm not being specific enough I'll try to add more, just ask. In fact im not even sure if its a DOS game but it seems like it would be, it had sprites and things too. If i recall correctly i never could figure out how to save a game, drove me nuts, but it was so addicting. Please can you point me to this game again? |

If no-one responded to the first request... and no-one responded to your bump...
What makes you think someone will respond to your second bump?

Sorry for the hostility before. You caught me at my least tolerant moment.
I'm usually a nice girl, honest.
There's a small group of us here who are regulars, and who check the forum daily.
If someone hasn't responded to your first request, it usually means none of us know.
For starters, you're probably not looking for a dos game if you played it 5 years ago at a school.
You could try a gaming forum that doesn't specifically deal with dosgames?
Maybe an RPG-specialist forum or something?
In saying that however, you don't find many modern side-scrollers and the fact that it was 2D may prove me wrong. I just don't really imagine there being a dosgame on a school computer 5 years ago.
Random stab in the dark - could it be any of the Castlevania series?
Sorry that i couldn't be more help.

| its pretty obscure actually from what ive seen, i downloaded from i think downloads.com?? maybe, i guess ill check there next but i didnt see any vampires or anything related to castlevania in it, the giant plant monster at the end of the first dungeon should be key enough to find it again if i put forth a lot more effort, ill search around but what exactly would you call a game like that? Fantasy RPG i guess.. 2d top down maybe? |

| I don't think thats it, i looked it up and thats a side scroller, this is a top down, sort of like FF4 on the world maps except more jerky. Ill keep asking around however. |

Some of the details make it sound like a roguelike, but.. maybe not. A dungeon crawl might be a term you'd find the sort of game under.
The more details you can give, the better the chance someone can tell what it is.
What was the user interface like? Were there HP bars or a stats display and how were they laid out, what was the inventory like, etc. |

well the thing is i cant really remember any of that, i believe on the right there were your basic stats str agi etc etc str was just that, you punch or hit something you do more damage, agility decides how many times you can press a key to attack before they retaliate and also how fast you can get away, some enemies like the glowing golems in the secret parts of the first dungeon have REALLY high agility and you simply CANNOT escape. Also you have perception which allowed you to see farther into the dungeon.
You could lose limbs but youd have to go all the way back to the start to have them repaired and for a VERY hefty fee, you needed food to eat and you could be "satiated" and varying levels of such, you even started losing stats if you ate too much. I know there were pendants, shields, duel weilding, boots, shin armor and helms and all the other standard stuff, you press the keyboard once and the game world along with you moved. I know you asked about the inventory system but I honestly cant remember, I just remember i had a hard time beating it but it was so much fun.
I'm trying to wrack my brain to remember but... I've played so many games in my life that I really can't remember, I hope the perception thing helps though. |
