First off I did read the Forums but I am still having trouble with getting the sound to work on Doom II. I have dosbox and VDMSound emulator but can still not get it to work. I have the drive permanently mounted with the 'oldgames' file name with my games filed inside. I have run out of ideas. Any help would be great. [step by step] Would make it easier thanks

If you have dosbox you don't need VDMSound.
If you want to use VDMSound you don't need dosbox.
You will have to make up your mind.
In dosbox you'll need to run setsound, setup, setmain or similar, forgot and don't have DoomII installed right now ... try things out)
Default soundsettings in dosbox are:
Soundblaster IRQ7 DMA1 HDMA5

Or go for the easiest and simpler solution: Use a WinPort, so you can play directly in Windows.
As is:
Skulltag (highly recommended!)
http://skulltag.com/ (simple setup, full multiplayer in a breeze ...)

DoomsDayHQ
http://forums.newdoom.com/forumdisplay.php?f=57 (neat graphics, not that easy to set up ....)

And a thousand other WinPorts for Doom, google will be your friend.
