Post subject: DOS Games Bootable CD |
|
|
For the last two days I played a little and created a small bootable CD which contains 20 classic DOS games. After that I added a feature, allowing me to play without rebooting every time by using DOS Box. So now I have CD which doesn't use the hard drive and I can play smoothly 20 (and many more in the future) DOS games.
If you are interested to play with this CD - here is the official project page:
http://>snip<
Why I started this project? Well, I use at least 3 different computers and I cant spend much time on every one of them to download/install DOSBox and 50+ games. So, I reduced my efforts to one CD which can be used in two ways to play DOS games (reboot in pure DOS mode or "autorun" from Windows CD drive).
I hope you will like it! Please, share your comments! |

Ahem, sorry friend but that's a pretty dumb idea.
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11743
Much easier, and faster then a CD.
And you can't scratch a USB key.
More secure.
You can add/delete whatever games you want.
Running around with a CD? What an idea.
And last but not least:
What about your savegames smartass?
In other words, you tried to reinvent hot water, but you only have cold water.
And BTW, I deleted your link, we don't allow links to sites where games can be downloaded, and that's what your site is about, as you added 20+ games on your CD.
If you think you should be allowed to advertise your site here, demand permission first. |

dosraider,
Thanks for your reply. I don't mind that you deleted the link. I was more interested to know about the opinion of the people.
DOSBox on USB - you are right. It is easier. But still, my project is mine and I love it! |

No problem, but think about it, make something similar on a USB key, think with a frontend or so, and you'll have something.
A CD is so useless, as you can't save your games, kinda pointless.
BTW, I've took a glance at you batch files, they look pretty good, use your knowledge on something really useful. |

Many good games fit onto a floppy disk |

| So, I put my floppy into my toaster oven, and plugged it all in and shit, but no matter how close I get the toaster to my computer, I can't get my computer to recognize it as a mass storage device. And also, my house smells like burnt plastic. Wally, what am I doing wrong? |

Its not a mass storage device, reconfigure it as burnt toast, then it MAY work.

I wouldn't say a CD is totally useless, I wouldn't use them to play games from but I would use them as a backup media for games.

If, *IF* you would have read this topic, it's all about PLAYING games from CD, none mentioned backups or something else.

And as I said I wouldn't play games from them, when I buy new games I create an ISO file and use DaemonTools and\or create a copy of the disc for use with games that require a CD. But, with DOS based games I would only use a CD as a backup medium (storage purposes). Usually, I play them straight from a HDD.
And for a Bootable CD of games, is (as the same as the others opinions) a ridiculous idea! |
